Cognition refers to a host of mental processes and functions including knowledge acquisition and recall, attention, memory, reasoning and problem solving. Several vaccine-preventable diseases have been shown to negatively affect the normal development of cognition in children. At the same time, there is evidence that preventing these diseases through vaccination benefits children through improved cognitive function by a variety of measures. This has a positive effect on educational attainment and future Economic Growth & Productivity.
Educational attainment is the term commonly used to refer to the number of years of schooling completed. Better health is associated with higher educational attainment allowing for greater Equity across groups and improved Economic prospects for nations and individuals
