This topic looks at how vaccine-preventable disease impacts a child's education, and synthesizes the evidence of immunization’s protective effects on a child’s ability to attend school, stay in school, and perform well in school. We examine the impact of vaccine-preventable infections of childhood on school attendance and longer term educational attainment, as well cognitive development in children. We synthesize the available evidence of the extent to which vaccines ensure kids remain healthy enough to attend school and help avoid cognitive setbacks and more serious neurological issues.
